There’s nothing worse than being totally obsessed with a television show and then watching it be ripped of the air. Some resort to angry letter writing, but for most, their prayers are never answered and they must let go of the characters and storylines they’ve come to love. Thanks to MGM Home Entertainment, not only will you be able to get your hands on the entire series February 17th, but you will also get the straight to DVD film Dead Like Me.
Georgia “George” Lass (Ellen Muth) may appear to be a normal young woman, but nobody would ever expect that she is actually a grim reaper. George, along with her fellow reapers, are responsible for escorting souls into the afterlife. The film Dead Like Me, picks up two years after the series concluded. George still fulfills her duties of being a reaper, but now, she has to answer to a new boss. Cameron Kane (Henry Ian Cusick) turns George and her reaper team’s methods awry when he institutes his new agenda. The havoc even leads George to breaking one of the most important reaper rules: not revealing her identity to her Earth family.
This creative and unusual story is sure to pull you in. But, be careful; once you start watching the series, you won’t be able to stop. It’s one of those shows that you will be sure to finish watching within a matter of days. The last time I finished a television series on DVD, I was so disappointed when I couldn’t just press a button and have the story continue. The best part about this set is that when you finish all of the episodes, you have an entire feature length film to keep you going.
If that’s not enough, you can move on to the bonus material. The film version is accompanied by director commentary and a featurette called “Back from the Dead: Resurrecting Dead Like Me.” On the set’s second disc, alongside the pilot, you get deleted scenes, cast commentary, a behind-the-scenes featurette, photo gallery and “The Music of Dead Like Me” featurette. The final disc has more deleted scenes, “Dead Like Me – Again” featurette, “Putting Life into Death” featurette and another photo gallery. If being a grim reaper is as enthralling as being a young wizard, comic book superhero or good looking vampire, the film version for $26.98 or the complete collection for $69.98 will definitely be worth the cash.
