Tropic Thunder is already one of the best comedies in a year that’s already full of good comedies. So how do you make the movie even better for its DVD release? How about a director’s cut that includes fourteen minutes of new footage, and alternate ending, deleted scenes, and the hilarious Rain of Madness behind the scenes spoof of Coppola’s Heart of Darkness.
The comedy, directed and starring Ben Stiller, and including Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., Danny McBride, and a hilarious performance from Tom Cruise (never thought I’d say those words) is hitting DVD on November 18th in a single disc theatrical cut, a two-disc unrated director’s cut version, and a Blu-ray edition. I have to say, I really like the Tropic Thunder logo for the director’s cut, making the package alone worth the extra cost.
The press release lists the Tropic Thunder performances at the MTV Movie Awards as part of the disc contents. I’m hoping the intro Black, Downey, and Stiller filmed for the movie’s Comic Con will be included as well. As fun as it was to be part of the exclusive audience for that in theaters, I’d hate to think such a funny bit would never be seen again.
