GTA V Breaks Pre-Order Records In UK, Aims To Dethrone Call Of Duty

Activision once held the crown as the king of the pre-order champion. The publisher was proud to prance around their prowess of pre-order predominance and they did so without respite. However, there is a new king of the hill, a new head honcho, a new pimp on the street of pre-orders... and his name is GTA V.

According to Computer and Videogames, they reached out to various retail outlets to gather some much needed info on the upcoming Grand Theft Auto V, and surprisingly enough they actually received a response that could be regurgitated into news post. Novel.

So what did the “retail source” tell them? That Grand Theft Auto V has gone over and beyond and reached to the stars to garner more than 3 million pre-orders in the United Kingdom alone. Can you believe that? GTA V has already out-sold most games this year in its pre-order sales. That's insane.

However, the good news doesn't end there. CVG recounts that the fastest selling and top selling game previous to the champ coming to take the throne was none other than Treyarch's Call of Duty: Black Ops, which they prescribed a hefty amount of praise to its ability to capture more than 1.4 million units in a single day and went on garner more than $1 billion dollars in less than month on retail shelves.

It's easy to see why people would be gung-ho excited for GTA V, though. The game is an absolute blockbuster of a game, even on paper. It's an insane feat that Rockstar has managed to get the tri-protagonist, open-world game running on today's generation of consoles. I imagine that if Rockstar had gone the extra mile and announced that the game would be a launch title for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 they could have easily surpassed the 3 million pre-orders in the U.K.

The game sports more than just three distinctly playable characters, the game offers players the re-emergence of customizable vehicles, putting the game back in competition with Saints Row, which also features the whole kit and kaboodle of vehicular manipulation. Rockstar also confirmed that the game will have various clothing options available, though at the cost of getting fat, skinny and muscular. The game will have a wide swath of mini-games and extra curricular activities that range from playing mini-golf to taking a swing or two in tennis. Yoga, water sports and a host of other features like rock climbing and off-road racing also help fill out the game's play-time.

Grand Theft Auto V is shaping up to be one of the biggest games ever designed and many gamers are thoroughly excited. That's not to mention that the game's new cooperative multiplayer functions and the ability to setup, plan and execute complicated and multi-tiered heists will set this game apart from anything else on the market, no offense to Payday 2.

You can pre-order GTA V right now and get ready to pick the game up on release this September for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. If the PC version is inbound it won't be launching with its console brethren but we'll keep you posted on when you can pre-order the version that the PC Master Race will take to whole new heights courtesy of mods.
