Gundam Versus Release Date

Bandai Namco and VSTG Project announced during this year's Anime Expo that the 3D open-space fighting game, Gundam Versus, will actually make its way westward later this year for PlayStation 4 gamers.

In fact, Polygon is reporting that during a live panel featuring Gundam Versus, Bandai Namco revealed that you'll be able to get your hands on the multiplayer fighting game starting September 29th, 2017 in North America for the PlayStation 4.

The game features one-on-one fights and two-on-two team battle modes for up to four players. There's even a three-on-three battle mode where six players will duke it out in the arenas using the mega-ton mechs.

According to the article, gamers will have up to 90 different mechs to choose from, spanning almost the entire catalog of Gundams dating back to the original in 1979. The whole Gundam franchise makes millions of dollars a year in manga, anime and video games, so it's unsurprising that Bandai would want to attempt to reach as many fans as possible by including as many different Gundams from different generations as possible.

In addition to simply having lots of Gundams to play as and various multiplayer modes to partake in, there are also some new features added to the game that weren't in previous Gundam outings, such as the new three-tier boost system, which was demonstrated in the original announcement trailer from earlier this spring. You can check it out below in case you missed it before.

The boost allows players to dash left and right, as well as dash a level upward to dodge attacks. However, Gundam Versus also allows players to dash downward with what's called a Boost Dive.

This is a pretty nifty trick when someone is firing at you and you quickly use the boost to dive downward to dodge incoming fire while you're flying around in the air.

Mechanics wise, the gameplay is extremely similar to Spike Chunsoft's Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi series or CyberConnect 2's Naruto Shippuden games, where players will use lock-on targeting to focus on a single opponent and utilize both melee and projectile-based attacks in order to whittle down the life of opponents.

Each Gundam will have its own attacks and special moves to master, giving players plenty of opportunities to experiment and try new tactics while on the battlefield.

But wait, there's more!

There are also strikers that you can call in to help you out, not unlike the strikers in games like King of Fighters and Marvel vs Capcom. This helps even up the odds in case some players may lack the necessary arsenal to take home the win based on skill alone. Beyond that, there are survival modes, boss hunter modes, and co-op missions as well.

As mentioned at the top of the article, Gundam Versus is set to arrive on September 29th later this year for the PlayStation 4 in North America.
