It's that time of the month where Sony unveils its line-up of free games for those who are paid subscribers to PlayStation Plus. Gamers paying out money to play online for the PS4 are going to be rewarded quite handsomely for October, including a huge title that rocked the gaming scene recently: Metal Gear Solid V.
According to the PlayStation Blog PS Plus subscribers can look forward to none other than Hideo Kojima's final game for Konami, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. You'll be able to get your hands on the title for free. It's the PlayStation 4 version of the game, so you're getting a high-quality experience.
The game was kind of cut short after five years and $80 million was invested into the game. The final chapter was only hinted at in behind-the-scenes bonus content. Perhaps one day gamers might able to mod in the final chapter? Anyway, the game took the Metal Gear Solid series to a whole new level, introducing open-world environments, vehicular gameplay, and a wide variety of different side-quests and options to expand and extend the gameplay well beyond the standard story route. It also helped slightly tie up a couple of the loose threads leading up to the events that kicked off in the original Metal Gear on the NES.
Frictional Games' Amnesia titles really took gaming by storm, and the studio was one of the lead outlets to bring on the wave of first-person atmospheric horror games. The rise in popularity of games like Amnesia and Slender: The Arrival marked a new path in how gamers viewed the horror genre. Since then we've seen games like Outlast and Soma pop onto the scene and continue to move the genre in new directions, something even Capcom adopted with Resident Evil 7. Well, if you want to know what spurred on the new wave of first-person horror games, you'll be able to do so with the original Amnesia Collection.
Following up on those blockbuster PlayStation 4 titles, Sony also has revealed that PlayStation 3 owners will be able to enjoy the billiard room game Hustle Kings, featuring HD pool-playing for multiple players. If miscellaneous games aren't your thing, PS3 owners will also be able to look forward to playing Monster Jam Battlegrounds. Team6's title wasn't met with the most positive of feedback due to the fact that it's a monster truck version of Trials Evolution, but some gamers enjoyed the fact that it could be beaten within an hour. So if you want something short and simple to play, it doesn't seem like a bad game to install... and besides, it's free with your PlayStation Plus subscription.
The last two games that will be available are cross-buy games for the PS Vita and PS4. Hue and Sky Force Anniversary can be acquired for your PlayStation Vita, but you can also install Hue on your PlayStation 4 if you want, while Sky Force Anniversary can be installed on your PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4. So technically, you could say that you're getting five free games for the month of October on PlayStation Plus: Metal Gear Solid V and the two Amnesia games, along with Hue and Sky Force Anniversary.
