Soon DICE will introduce a new feature to Battlefield 3 to make clan battles easier. The new Match functionality will allow players to arrange competitive multiplayer sessions in advance.

Players will be able to specify the server and time for Matches. A long list of game settings, including friendly fire and map rotation, can also be specified. The designated captain for each team can select their roster from their friends list or Platoon.

An organized Match begins with a Warm-up Phase. Players will be able to kill each other freely without any points being tallied. The Warm-up will end once every player invited to the match has indicated that they're ready.

The Match's results will be posted to Battlelog after it's completed. You'll be able to check all the vital information, just like you would with any normal multiplayer session.

The only "catch' to speak of here is that in order to organize a Match, you need to be actively renting a dedicated server. After all, they're not just going to let you take over random servers for your grudge matches. This feature, then, is really designed for hardcore BF3 enthusiasts who want an eSport-like experience.

The release date for Matches hasn't been announced yet.
