Battlestar Galactica's television run may have ended but the series will live on in a new MMO. Bigpoint announced today that they will be publishing a browser-based MMO called Battlestar Galactica Online.

"Players will be able to choose to play as cylons or humans in a constant struggle to control the universe or just survive its perils," states the press release. "A blend of tactical space combat, exploration, and mission-based gameplay will provide a diverse experience. The dramatic missions will define the game's overall storyline, enabling the player to delve into mysteries of the Battlestar universe."

BGO is being developed by Norwegian studio Artplant. They're using Unity 3D technology to build the game. This is the same tech that powers Tiger Woods Online, the browser-based golfing game.

The MMO is expected to launch this fall on It will be available exclusively through that website for a month.
