This weekend Gearbox Software revealed details on Zer0 the Assassin, one of the playable characters in Borderlands 2. Zer0 sounds like he'll be perfect for those of you who play thieves or rogues in other games.

"The cool thing about Zer0 is you don't really know where he's from or what he's all about just yet," Gearbox's Jeramy Cooke told IGN. "He's definitely a bit of a mystery and that's on purpose…an interesting note about Zer0 is his real name is not Zer0. That's what everyone calls him because every time he assassinates someone he displays a zero on his faceplate so he's just known as Zer0."

The Assassin can deploy holographic decoys, which can also be upgraded to deal damage. While enemies are distracted, he can enter stealth mode. While stealthed, an Assassin's sword swings deal additional damage. The bonus damage is greater the closer you are to stealth wearing off, so timing is important.

You don't need to be in melee range to deal damage, though. Zer0 also wields sniper rifles and other firearms. An ability called Be Like Water (nice Bruce Lee reference there) encourages the Assassin to quickly switch between his gun and sword in order to gain damage boosters.

Borderlands 2 will be arriving in September on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
