Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Mirror of Fate is set to arrive on the Nintendo 3DS next Tuesday, March 5, but for those who want to whip it (whip it good) a bit early, then you might want to fire up your handheld console right now. There’s a demo on the Nintendo eShop just waiting to be downloaded and played.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in late 2010, dividing Belmont loyalists due to the new direction the game took. No matter how many times Konami stated that the game was a reboot of the classic franchise, half of the fans out there still protested because it was pretty far removed from what they had come to expect over the past couple of decades. Those capable of getting the hell over it, however, discovered a great action game that borrowed heavily from other genre greats while sprinkling in just enough classic Castlevania magic to keep the game true to its roots.

While Lords of Shadow 2 is still a ways off from hitting the home console scene, players can fill in a missing piece of the story next week when Mirror of Fate releases for the 3DS. Taking place between the two console games, Mirror of Fate takes place 25 years following the original Lords of Shadow, telling the story of Gabriel Belmont’s descendants, Simon and Trevor.

According to a statement from Konami Digital Entertainment, today’s Mirror of Fate demo “showcases intense whip combat, deep platforming, exploration and spectacular visuals of the highly anticipated title.” If all of that sound like your idea of a good time, then head on over to the Nintendo eShop and download the Mirror of Fate demo starting today. Otherwise, you can download or purchase the game at retail on March 5.
