EA hired a bunch of folks to act like crazy Christians and rail against its Hell-centric Dante's Inferno game at this year's E3. Non-crazy Christians are, unsurprisingly, perturbed by this marketing tactic.
"It's been clear for a while now that the entertainment industry views Christians on the whole as priggish, thin-skinned fun-killers... Has anybody at EA actually read the Inferno?" said a blogger at InsideCatholic (via GamePolitics).
"Gamers of all varieties will buy this product if it's, well, actually a good game," said Catholic Video Gamers. "So instead of engaging in a shamelessly anti-Christian stunt to promote your poor excuse of a product, maybe you ought to work on making this game, you know, something better than a blatant God of War rip-off and make it, ya know, something worthwhile?"
While yes, there are people nuts enough to think gaming will lead to damnation, it'd be better to leave the mockery of said people to the gaming community. EA's dollars would be better spent on promoting the actual game. Here, I'll start you off: Dante's Inferno is made by the same studio as Dead Space and you get to kill hellspawn with a scythe.
