One of the year's big PlayStation Vita exclusives, Freedom Wars arrives this week on the PlayStation Network, alongside several seasonally appropriate games for those of you looking to get into the Halloween spirit.

The PlayStation Vita has become home to many-a Monster Hunter-style game over the years, with games like Toukiden, Soul Sacrifice and the like giving players the opportunity to team up, head out onto big maps and lay waste to countless enemies. Freedom Wars falls into that same category but, after some hands-on time with the game at E3 2014, I discovered that this particular “hunter” game breaks away from the pack in a few ways.

For starters, swords and sorcery take a back seat to sci-fi and technology this time around. The game takes place in the future, where the player is born into a prison life with a ridiculously long sentence. The only way to earn your freedom is to head out into the wastelands of destroyed cities, rescue citizens and, in doing so, knock some years off of your sentence. To do that, you'll have some futuristic swordplay to enjoy, as well as third-person shooting and a grappling system that lets you move about the level like a stylish Spider-Man.

Look for it, along with the rest of this week's releases, when the PlayStation Network updates on Tuesday afternoon.

For those of you looking to get in a little trick or treating before Oct. 31, then this week's PSN update has you covered. Costume Quest 2 lets you once again save the world while collecting candy, while Blood of the Werewolf is a platforming action game that lets you become the titular nightmare creature.

As we reported yesterday, the indie horror game, Home will hit the PS4 and Vita this week, alongside #killallzombies for the PS4 and Poltergeist: A Pixelated Horror for the Vita. The former is a dual-stick shooter while the latter lets you scare people away as a ghost.

For those sad souls who don't really care for spooktacular games, there's a whole bunch of other stuff hitting the Network this week, too. Battle Islands brings strategic combat to the PS4 while Tiny Troopers Joint Ops achieves a similar goal for the PS3 and Vita.

Deadfall Adventures: Heart of Atlantis brings third-person action to the PS3 this week, with PS4 dark RPG Lords of the Fallen set to steal away countless hours from fans of the genre.

Sports fans will be able to enjoy MX vs. ATV: Supercross on the PS3 this week, with NBA Live 15 on the PS4 and WWE 2K15 on the PS3.

Finally, SingStar hits a high note on the PS4 this week, alongside The Unfinished Swan on PS4 and Vita, and a new PS3 games for those heroes in a half shell, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Danger of the Ooze.
