Square Enix let loose some new screenshots for the upcoming do-over of Final Fantasy XIV, appropriately (re)named to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. In order to make the do-over sufficient, the company wisely chose to kill off the old planet...yes, and they did so in sparkling fashion with one of the most cinematic and well designed trailers ever.

The new screenshots don't hold the same kind of visual weight as the cinematic sequence, of course, but they're still there to give gamers a nice hold on what to expect from the title, gameplay wise.

We get to see some standard mobs being pelted on by the player character and we also get to see a sub-boss fight and a main boss fight. With the main boss you can see that the scale of the boss is so large that zooming out is kind of required in order to get a good scope on how to attack him.

Graphically, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is easily one of the best looking games out there (or coming out there again). It's surprisingly rich in detail and I really have to tip my hat off to Square for being able to squeeze an MMO of that caliber on the PS3. Fine work indeed.
