The long-awaited announcement for Gran Turismo 6 may take place later this month. Sony has sent out details for a special GT-themed event on May 15th.
The festivities will take place at the Silverstone Circuit in the UK. The stated purpose of the May 15th event is to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the PlayStation-exclusive series. Kazunori Yamauchi will be on hand to give "an update on the future of the Gran Turismo game," according to the press release on the GT website.
The above trailer only fuels the Gran Turismo 6 speculation. It shows the GT logo, with the numbers "1" through "5" appearing to next to it in rapid succession. After "5", an underscore appears for a few seconds.
GT6's development was confirmed in late 2011. Last spring, evidence emerged that the game's announcement was coming soon. We're still waiting for a final reveal, though.
This event seems like as good of a time as any to announce GT6. Sony plans to release the PlayStation 4 this fall. A new installment in their exclusive racing series would be a strong launch title for the next-gen console. While Sony will probably want to save a few announcements for E3, a game of GT6's stature deserves its own reveal event.
At the 15th anniversary celebration, five graduates of the Nissan PlayStation GT Academy will do a few laps on the Silverstone Circuit. The press release notes that this track hasn't been featured in the GT series yet. Maybe it will appear in GT6?
