Subscribe To The Game Of The Year Announced At The DICE Awards Is No Surprise Updates

At this year's D.I.C.E. Summit in Las Vegas, Nevada, they handed out awards for the best games of the year in various categories. The Game of the Year, or GOTY, went to none other than Bethesda Software's Fallout 4.
A list of the games that received awards at the Design, Innovate, Communicate and Entertain Summit was revealed over on PC Gamer, where they rolled through a list of the winners. Fallout 4 came out on top and a few other expected choices were also selected for excellence in specific categories. You can check out the full list below.

It kind of baffles me how certain games were chosen for certain categories. For instance, I don't see how Star Wars: Battlefront from DICE (not to be confused with D.I.C.E.) managed to win for action game of the year. I would have expected that the award would have gone to Crystal Dynamics' Rise of the Tomb Raider. I didn't think that the sequel to the Tomb Raider reboot deserved to win at the Writers Guild of America for best writing in a video game of 2015, but it definitely deserved to edge out a win over the very gorgeous but content-deficient Star Wars: Battlefront. As far as replay values and content is concerned, Rise of the Tomb Raider definitely offers more than DICE's shooter.
In the adventure category Metal Gear Solid V took away a win, which makes sense and there are few arguments about that, but I'm shocked that Bloodborne doesn't make the cut in any category. It wasn't really my cup of tea but I thought the world building and lore in that game was absolutely outstanding. Nevertheless, the story award went to The Witcher 3.
And speaking of The Witcher 3... some gamers think that Fallout 4 getting the D.I.C.E., GOTY is unfair. They think that it should have gone to CD Projekt Red's open-world RPG.
There are also some complaints that Fallout 4 walking away with RPG of the year is a crock given that many feel Pillars of Eternity – another game that was lobbied for but not very heavily for a WGA award – was robbed of the RPG award.
It's definitely true that a lot of games that deserved more recognition didn't get, and some games that received a lot of recognition may not have deserved it.
It's at least good to see that Metal Gear Solid V was awarded for something. Despite a third of the content being left on the cutting room floor, it still managed to offer enough playability and replayability to last games dozens and dozens of hours of gameplay content. It's rare that a game that was hacked, cut down and unfinished manages to be more feature-rich than other games that are supposed to be finished and polished.
The only thing I really wanted to see was Ori and the Blind Forest receive some sort of recognition for the original soundtrack and I'm glad that it did. The art was okay to me but the first 10 or so minutes were brilliantly directed. The soundtrack, through and through was breathtaking. So it's nice to see it win an award in that category.
As far as Fallout 4 is concerned... do you think those voting for the D.I.C.E., awards got it right?
