Fans have been waiting over seven years for The Last Guardian since it was announced in 2009 and finally, we might actually be able to get our hands on the game this year.
Eurogamer reports that since a ton of new details was just recently revealed that the game is still on track to release sometime this year. IGN posted a video detailing how Trico, the chimera friend to the the boy in The Last Guardian, came to be, which includes a first-look at The Last Guardian gameplay. You can watch that video below.
In terms of weapons, the protagonist of the game will be able to carry a mirrored shield while his chimera will be able to shoot fire out of its tail.
I didn’t even know about The Last Guardian before last year’s E3, and then I saw the sneak peek and fell in love with the concept present in The Last Guardian. The game will focus on the relationship between the boy and the chimera and will work very much like Team Ico’s last game, Shadow Of The Colossus.
Now I can’t wait to get my hands on it. I’m known to be a player who is obsessed with the story in a game, but I love love a developing relationship or friendship between characters, like watching Nathan Drake and his brother Sam interact, or watching how Chloe and Max in Life Is Strange grow and change together. And if the centerpiece of this game is going to be the relationship between this boy and his chimera (which acts like a gigantic cuddle and playful dog), I know I’ll get immediately attached. Shame on me for never playing Shadow Of The Colossus.
Hopefully we’ll be able to hear of an official release date come E3 in a couple weeks, but with a game as in-depth as The Last Guardian (and a history of difficult development) it’s hard to say exactly what’s going to happen.
