Today Sony formally announced the Collector's Edition for God of War: Ascension as well as the game's pre-order DLC. They've also provided the first images of each.

The $79.99 CE comes with a copy of the soundtrack, a PS3 dynamic theme, PSN Avatar Pack, a multiplayer double XP unlock, and a pass for future DLC. You'll also get an 8" statue of Kratos. Your copy of the game will come in a Steelbook case and the entire bundle is packaged in a special crate with drawings of Kratos on the side.

Sony actually announced the Collector's Edition way back in June. However, this is the first time they've actually shown off the package. Maybe seeing the Kratos statue will entice you to make the purchase.

If you pre-order either the Collector's Edition or the Standard Edition, you'll get the Mythological Heroes Multiplayer Pack for free. This DLC unlocks four Greek heroes - Perseus, Orion, Achilles and Odysseus - for use in online play. Each looks damn cool so even if you have no idea who they are, you should enjoy being able to play them in multiplayer.

After revealing these images on PlayStation.Blog, Ascension director Todd Papy promised that they'll be making a big announcement on October 15th. We'll see what Monday brings us, then.
