God of War: Ascension is less than a week away from hitting store shelves and, to help everyone prepare, Sony Santa Monica has put together a couple of new videos highlighting some of the game’s new multiplayer options, including the new Trial of the Gods mode and a look at what benefits Poseidon grants his online followers.

It’s pretty much a rule these days that any game that “could” have a horde mode “shall” have a horde mode. God of War: Ascension is no different, as it turns out. Revealed through the PlayStation Blog, the Trial of the Gods mode allows a player to fly solo or team up with a buddy to take on five waves of increasingly difficult mythological monsters. This mode will be available in three maps initially, including Desert of Lost Souls, Forum of Hercules and Rotunda of Olympus.

“Over 15 types of enemies await you, including Satyrs, Cerberuses, Cyclopes, Gorons, Juggernauts and more deadly creatures,” reads the announcement post. “You will start with a set amount of time on the clock and win time back with every beast you slay. Decimate a wave and you will be granted a Bonus Time Tiered Award based on how fast you cleared the wave. If you die or run out of time, you’ll have to start over again. If you reach the end of the fifth round, an epic boss awaits.”

Finally, Ascension’s online mode lets you side with either Hades, Aires, Zeus or Poseidon in order to receive their special gear and blessings in battle. Today, Sony Santa Monica gave more details on Poseidon’s perks, including a large pool of health, the ability to fortify allies and the ability to cast water and ice spells.

If that wasn’t enough to build up a godly blood lust, then maybe God of War: Ascension just isn’t for you. Otherwise, look for it at retailers and on the PlayStation Network next Tuesday, March 12.
