A spin-off Hitman game based on IO Interactive's Hitman Absolution, entitled Sniper Challenge, has been revealed via the US printed gaming magazine, Game Informer. The scan shows off the mode being available for both the Xbox 360 and PS3.
The Sniper Challenge advert makes an appearance in the latest issue of Game Informer. It'll offer a replayable sniper mission, accompanied by online leaderboards. The game's best sniper players will receive prizes, but what these exactly are have yet to be detailed. An exclusive rifle with upgrades is also mentioned.
To receive the downloadable game, you'll need to pre-order Hitman Absolution, consequently delivering a code that unlocks Sniper Challenge on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. It's also likely that the mode will be available later on, potentially as day-one DLC or post-launch DLC for those who don't pre-order the game. Developer IO Interactive had recently teased a "major" announcement for Absolution this Thursday so Hitman Sniper Challenge is likely to be just that.
Hitman Absolution is currently scheduled for a release on consoles and PC this year, with the game due to be showcased at this year's E3. It'll utilize IO Interactive's proprietary Glacier 2 game engine, with the story being focused around a more personal affair for protagonist Agent 47. As for game modes, the standard campaign is included but a multiplayer component has been hinted at before.
"First of all, I want to say we do have something very, very interesting coming up in Hitman: Absolution on the online side. We're not ready to talk about it right now. Hitman is an assassin who works alone, but you never know in what form or in what way we could give you an online experience," said producer Hakan Abrak.
Unfortunately, no details have emerged regarding whether or not the multiplayer will be cooperative-based, competitive-based or something in between. Hopefully this Sniper Challenge isn't what they were referring to. If there is a more extensive multiplayer mode within the game itself, though, it'll undoubtedly be revealed during E3. Hitman Absolution is included in publisher Square Enix's line-up for the convention.
