It was a pretty big year for video games and, thanks to the holiday shopping rush, December was one of the biggest months yet. With only one or two noteworthy games hitting physical and virtual shelves, though, many gamers used December to catch up on titles they may have previously missed. Sony has announced its top PlayStation Network games of the month, and Journey has once again ventured to the top of the charts.

Maybe it was all of the game of the year chatter surrounding ThatGameCompany's latest offering, or maybe folks were just looking for something to wow the relatives through the holiday visits. For whatever reason, Journey has once again ventured to the highest peak on PSN, earning the December top spot for PSN/PS3 games. Final Fantasy titles continued to dominate the PS One Classics section of the store while Jetpack Joyride launched to the top of the heap in PS Minis. Keep in mind that this is the for-pay Mini version of the game released in December and not the free version passed out later in January.

The full list and additional commentary can be found over on the PlayStation Blog. For an idea of how PSN sales shaped up through December, though, here's a look at each category's top three.
