Detective Chase McCain is earning his given name in this latest Lego City Undercover trailer. The new gameplay footage shows him hunting down a variety of scumbags on the streets of Lego City.

Lego City Undercover is basically a family-friendly Grand Theft Auto. Players take on the role of an undercover cop named Chase McCain in Lego City. He'll have to track down criminals on foot and in various vehicles. At times he'll have to resort to extreme measures, such as skateboarding or swinging from flagpoles.

As a long-time GTA fan, I was all set to hate Lego City. Still, it's hard not to be charmed by the game's cheery disposition. I laughed out loud when the clown bank robber knocked down a cop with a bucket full of confetti. While the game is obviously inspired by GTA and its ilk, it's putting an interesting twist on the formula. It seems like it'll be a blast for kids and the parents playing with them.

Lego City Undercover will hit North America on March 18th and Europe on the 28th. The game will be available exclusively on the Wii U.
