Kickstarter has all sorts of games, projects and creative endeavors going on and it's easy to see a few and miss the rest. Mercenary Kings is one of those games that could have easily slipped through the cracks but it's uber-awesomeness is what makes it stand out from all the other games out there. Why? Simple, it's like Metal Slug meets an RPG crafting game. How did no other game company ever think to make a game like this? Really?!
Rock, Paper, Shotgun managed to scrounge together a few noteworthy Kickstarter projects potentially worthy of your time (and money...well, mostly just your money) and Mercenary Kings was one of those games.
Canadian based company Tribute Games has a really cool game here. I love the art-style and smooth-as-a-baby's-bottom gameplay. This is a sleeper hit in the making.
The weapon crafting looks sick and the gun mechanics are snazzy. Oh wait, you probably did see the snazzy gun mechanics or the sick weapon cratfing because that video above doesn't really do the game any justice. The prototype video below. Check it out.
Now is that not awesome or what? Seems like we just don't get games like that anymore. The last game that utilized that kind of playstyle was Metal Assault from Aeria Games, but unfortunately that game died.
Mercenary Kings has 25 days left on its Kickstarter and it's currently sitting at $43,336 out of $75,000...so they're definitely close but they need to get closer, faster.
I'm completely stoked for this game and if you are too, then you can learn more about this project by visiting the Official Kickstarter Page.
