WB Games Chicago, formerly Midway Studios, is staffing up to create a new Mortal Kombat game. The latest job posting suggests that the game will have a substantial online component.
The Senior Software Engineer posting, found by TRMK, states that WB Games Chicago is "looking to position Mortal Kombat as the “gold standard” for network play, and we are looking for someone who wants to push the boundaries of what is possible with online interaction." Whoever gets the job will assist in the creation of "brand-new features that will revolutionize online play."
Well, good luck with all that. Mortal Kombat 9 (as the new project has been dubbed) does not have a release date yet. Midway Studios and the Mortal Kombat franchise were acquired by Warner Bros. in July.
