Sony has revealed that seven free games will be available through PlayStation Plus in October. The freebies range from small indies to a brand-new PS4 exclusive.
That new release is none other than racing game DriveClub. You're not getting the full retail edition, though. PlayStation Plus members will get a limited version of the game that features 11 tracks and 10 cars in both single-player and multiplayer modes. Sony says on PlayStation Blog that you can upgrade to the full game for $49.99.
PS4 owners will also get Dust: An Elysian Tail and Spelunky. Spelunky is a 1-4 player platformer in which players must gather treasure in randomized caves full of enemies and traps. This is a Cross-Buy title, meaning that you'll get access to the PS Vita and PS3 versions as well. Dust: An Elysian Tail, meanwhile, is a Metroidvania-style game set in a fantasy world. The player slices up enemies with a magical sword and spells while keeping an eye out for secret areas and rewards.
The free games for PS3 are arguably the best. Batman: Arkham Asylum pits the Dark Knight against many of his most notorious enemies inside an insane asylum. He'll also fight their gangs of thugs using gadgets, stealth, and his bat-fists. You really ought to check this game out if you haven't already.
Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara is a double-dose of nostalgia. It combines the arcade beat 'em ups Tower of Doom and Shadow over Mystara into a single game. Players can fight their way through each adventure alone or with up to three friends. New features in the double-remake include high-def visuals, customizable rules and leaderboards.
The first PS Vita freebie is Pix the Cat. Also playable on PS4, Pix is an arcade game in which players rescue ducklings from mazes filled with obstacles.
The other Vita game for PS Plus this month is Rainbow Moon, a dungeon-crawling RPG with turn-based battles. The developers say it offers over 40 hours of gameplay. Rainbow can also be downloaded on PS3.
The PlayStation Plus games for this month will be available starting on October 7th.
