This weekend Nintendo revealed a mysterious new Pokemon appearing in Pokemon X and Y. This new Pokemon has some connection to the Legendary Mewtwo.

"The mysteries of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y continue to grow with the unveiling of a Pokémon that is strangely familiar!" says the updated website for X and Y. "It looks a lot like the powerful Legendary Pokémon Mewtwo, but not quite the same…"

Mewtwo is a powerful, psychic-based Pokemon. It was created by a scientist from the DNA of Mew, another Pokemon with psychic powers. Neither Mew nor Mewtwo have any known evolutions. Is this mystery Pokemon the first evolution of Mewtwo then? Or another lab experiment?

The new Pokemon (Mewthree?) has a humanoid body like Mewtwo. There are some small cosmetic differences, though. Mewthree's tail extends from the back of its head rather from its lower back. The Pokemon also has a loop protruding from its forehead.

Pokemon X and Y will be the first games in the main series to be released on 3DS. The games' Pokemon collection will also introduce two new Legendaries.
