It’s a pretty busy week on the Nintendo eShop, though most of the buzz will likely be focused on a 20-plus-year-old game and a discount on titles featuring a pointy-eared hero in a green cap.
Looking for something to tide you over until next week’s launch of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds? Perhaps you’re in the market for a downloadable title or two to keep you busy while waiting in line for the PlayStation 4 tonight or the Xbox 360 next week? Well, you’re in luck, as the Nintendo eShop is positively overflowing with content for the Wii U and 3DS this week. Sadly, most of that content doesn’t exactly fall into the “wide appeal” category, but maybe you’ll find something to pique your interest in this week’s offerings.
For starters, and in prep for next week’s release of a new game featuring the hero of Hyrule, multiple games in the Legend of Zelda series are on sale for at least 30 percent off between the 3DS and Wii U. This week marks the start of several “character themed” discount drives for Nintendo, with three portable and two home console titles starring Link getting marked down by a tidy sum. The following prices are good until 9 a.m. Nov. 21, so act soon if you want to go adventuring on the cheap.
First up, on the 3DS, gamers can get the original The Legend of Zelda for $3.49, Link’s Awakening DX for $3.99 and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link for $3.49. If you’d rather game on the Wii U, then you can grab the original Zelda for $3.49, too, as well as The Adventure of Link for the same price.
Similarly retro and wholly awesome is the fact that River City Ransom joins the Virtual Console for 3DS this week, allowing gamers to take on the roles of Alex and Ryan in a quest to save Cyndi from a ruthless gang. What makes this particular VC title even more badass is the fact that the two-player co-op stays intact thanks to the wonders of Download Play. Yeah, in my book, that news is more than a little rad. Now for a sequel!
Now that we’ve gotten all of that out of the way, let’s take a look at the rest of this week’s new offerings for the Wii U and 3DS. Venture onto the home console’s eShop and you’ll find digital versions of Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games on Nov. 15 and Zumba Fitness World Party on Nov. 19. So you can either pretend you’re getting in shape with a plumber and a hedgehog or you can actually get in shape through the power of Zumba. Your call. For the record, Mario & Sonic will also be available on the 3DS, too.
Also arriving for both the Wii U and 3DS this week is Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I don’t Know! Yep, that’s its name. And you can do exactly as it says starting next Tuesday.
Now for the games I’m decidedly less excited about! Both the Wii U and 3DS will get Barbie Dreamhouse Party this week, as well as Hot Wheels: World’s Best Driver. Uncharted Waters: New Horizons will be available on the Wii U while the 3DS adds Frozen: Olaf’s Quest, Girl’s Fashion Shoot, Secret Mysteries in New York, Senran Kagura Burst, World Conqueror 3d, Word Wizard 3D and Deer Drive Legends.
