While Activision is retreating from the music game business, Ubisoft is expanding into it. Today they announced Rocksmith, a new franchise they say will revolutionize the genre.
Rocksmith is played with a real guitar. As long as it's got a quarter-inch input jack, you'll be able to use it on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. You'll play along with a wide variety of music from groups like The Animals, The Black Keys, David Bowie, Interpol, Nirvana and The Rolling Stones. The gameplay automatically adjusts to your skill level and - in another break from music games - will actually help you learn how to play music.
“Rocksmith is the most authentic and addicting music game ever created,” said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft U.S.. “Whether a beginner or a seasoned guitar vet, players progress at their own speed and walk away from the game with the ability to play songs by memory. Rocksmith is the only video game that gets players stage ready.”
Ubisoft is developing Rocksmith internally. It will be released in the second half of 2011.
