Nintendo has two new maps coming to Splatoon, one of which includes the Piranha Pit and the other of which includes the Ancho-V Games. The Piranha Pit will be available starting December 29th, 2015. There's no date yet on Ancho-V Games, but at least we know it's coming soon.
The two new maps were briefly discussed over on Nintendo Life, where they embedded a trailer of the two maps.
This followed confirmation of the new maps from Nintendo of Europe's Twitter.
The Piranha Pit is a small isle map with a lot of inclines and declines scattered across the map. There's a top-down view of the Piranha Pit over on Destructoid that shows the ins and outs of the map, as well as potential choke points that teams will likely want to take advantage of and master once the update goes live for Splatoon.
The new map comes shortly on the heels of the Christmas update for the third-person shooter, where Nintendo released an update that added a Rapid Pro Blaster. The weapon fires a giant ball of paint at its target. It was revealed as a Christmas present by the official Japanese Twitter account for Splatoon along with a few images of how the weapon looks and what sort of damage it can do on the paint field.
All of these updates have been consistent and frequent for Splatoon, a given since it's one of the best selling games on the Wii U, and quickly moved more than a million copies after it released back in spring of 2015.
Nintendo has been capitalizing on the game's success thanks to its strong appeal both at retail and via digital distribution. In fact the game is now within the top 10 best selling games at the moment on the Wii U via the Nintendo eShop. This is according to the official listings over on the Nintendo of Japan website.
Splatoon originally came onto the scene back in late May, and not everyone was sure that it was going to be a hit, but Nintendo managed to pull through with the new franchise and sell big numbers on the little Wii U.
For owners of the game, you can get your hands on the new update starting tomorrow.
