Paradox Interactive's The Showdown Effect is an over-the-top multiplayer battle-arena game similar to that classic Xbox title, Kung Fu Chaos from Just Add Monsters. The fast-paced melee and projectile combat fused with classic movie tropes could help The Showdown Effect find a nice niche audience on the digital marketplace when it launches soon for the PC and Mac.

The newest trailer for the game is a collage of gameplay scenarios showcasing the game's fast and furious multiplayer action, as well as the melee skills, shooting skills, and silly characters that players will take control of, ranging from the typical action hero archetype to the old cop about to retire. Check it out below.

The game looks all right.

There is one thing that seems a little like a letdown and it's that all these cool iconic movie cliches from the 80s and 90s are only being used in eight-player multiplayer battles. It would have seemed pretty cool being able to traverse through stages like Shank or Mark of the Ninja and unleash some righteous bad-action fury on a bunch of trash mobs and throwaway bad guys. In other words, disposable NPCs would have been nice.

Anyway, if you're keen on getting your multiplayer mayhem on with a 2.5D action side-scroller featuring a lot of cool and overused tropes from the 80s and 90s action movie genres, feel free to register for The Showdown Effect's beta by visiting the game's official website.
