Have you ever wondered what some of those 2D stages in Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles would look like in full 3D? Well, Sega is turning that “wonder” into a reality in Sonic Generations, as a new trailer was released showing off many of the beloved, old-school side-scrolling levels in high-definition 3D environments.

The video is short and sweet and doesn’t bother wasting time with nonsensical matters but instead focuses entirely on the gameplay and giving gamers a reason to root for Sonic again. You can check out the new trailer below and then we can discuss the trailer a little bit more after that.

I don’t know about anyone else but I really am pumped for this game. I’m hoping this game sells well enough to give Sega the incentive to keep Sonic in this kind of direction…offering side-scrolling and 3D type environments in future Sonic games, in order to give gamers the best of both worlds.

If you’re as excited as I am for Sonic Generations you can look for the game to hit shelves for the Xbox 360, Nintendo 3DS and PS3 this November. For more information on the game feel free to visit the Official Website.
