This weekend GSC Game World confirmed once again that a full sequel to the horror/shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is in development. They provided a few more details about this project as well.

"After the official sales of the series exceeded 4 million copies worldwide, we had no doubts left to start creating a new big game in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe," said CEO Sergiy Grygorovych. "This will be the next chapter of the mega-popular game players expect from us."

Unlike the first game and its expansions, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will not be a PC exclusive. Instead, it will use "completely new multi-platform technology." The exact platforms weren't specified but this obviously means at least one console will be getting some love.

Unfortunately, new technology means longer development periods. S2 won't arrive until 2012.
