Wannabe game developers and future game designing hall of famers are probably salivating at the thought of gaining free access to certain Unreal Engine 3 toolsets. Epic let the news loose that the free UDK software release has been extremely popular and has already seen 50,000 users gaining access to the tools since its launch on November 5th.

According to the press release, Mark Rein, vice president of Epic Games commented, saying…
"We are very excited to see the uptake of UDK cross over the 50,000 mark in only one week, and we're looking forward to seeing amazing games and applications come out of it," …. "We're also thrilled to finally be able to offer UDK free for schools and students so they can work with the same awesome Unreal Engine 3 tools used by many of the top game developers and publishers around the world."

In addition to the UDK offering unprecedented access to the Unreal Engine 3 tech, 3D Buzz will be offering free online video tutorials on using the technology. In fact, there are over 100 free videos available to help newbie game designers get acquainted with the Unreal Development Kit.

It will be very interesting to see what comes out of this. It’s almost like Microsoft’s XNA program for the Xbox 360, which has created its own community with the Indie Game channel. In fact, Epic already has licensing details setup for those of you who would like to sell creations made with the Unreal Development Kit. You can learn more about the toolset and selling games using the UDK by visiting the Official Website.
