Which game for the original PlayStation was the absolute best? The answer, of course, is Metal Gear Solid, but your opinion may differ. And that's exactly what Sony is counting on, as they've recently opened up a poll to settle this decades old dispute once and for all.
The OG PS had a huge library of games, many of which helped build a foundation for genres, mechanics and series that are still in use to this very day. But which of those games was truly the best? You can have your say by heading on over to the PlayStation Blog, where a poll has been set up to help bring the debate to a close. There are loads of games available to pick from, as well as an option to write in a game that didn't make the list.
It's hard to believe, but the original PlayStation celebrated its 20th birthday this past week, marking two decades since folks watched that iconic PS logo appear on screen for the first time. Our little console is all grown up now. Heck, in another year, the PlayStation can finally walk into a bar and order a drink without causing a scene.
Along with those now standard dual analog sticks, the original PlayStation was also home to many landmark titles, such as Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo and Grand Theft Auto, just to name a very, very few. Heck, the first three Resident Evil games launched for that system, along with the first Silent Hill, Suikoden, Tomb Raider and Tony Hawk.
If I say Xenogears, The Legend of Dragoon, Valkyrie Profile or Persona, quite a few people's hearts will likely go pitter-patter just at their mention. And what about Parappa the Rapper, Twisted Metal, Bushido Blade or Bloody Roar 2? See what I'm saying? Lots of history, lots of great games and lots of series that are still kicking to this day. I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention the Crash Bandicoot series (The older, animated sibling of Uncharted's Nathan Drake) and a little game that goes by the name Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
This type of stroll down memory lane is exactly why Sony decided to put together their little poll to determine the “best” PlayStation game. All of those games mentioned above, and a whole lot more, are included in the poll, giving everyone a chance to remember just how important and, more importantly, entertaining that first PlayStation truly was.
The comments section from the original post is also worth perusing if you've got time, as folks are coming out of the woodwork to share their favorite stories from 20 years ago.
Taking part in the poll requires two clicks of the mouse and you've got until this coming Tuesday, Sept. 15 to make your selection. So tell us, which game are you voting for?
