Joss Whedon is largely known for two things: 1) he loves to punch you in the gut emotionally and 2) the way he constructs female characters. Over the course of his career the writer/director has shown an incredible talent for crafting members of the fairer sex, be it through Buffy or Willow on Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Zoë Washburne or River Tam on Firefly or any other of his projects. With the newest clip from The Avengers online it seems that Whedon's love of female characters is affecting the marketing as well.
Cobie Smulders, who plays S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill in the upcoming film, was on the Late Show with David Letterman this evening and presented a clip during the interview. What's interesting is that it's the second female-driven clip we've seen from the movie, the first showing Scarlett Johansson kicking a lot of ass as Black Widow. Watch the new video below, in which Hill has a very stern conversation about the Tesseract (aka The Cosmic Cube) with S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson).
The Avengers, which follows the events of Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger, stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, and Scarlett Johansson as the team that must save the earth from the evil God of Mischief, Loki (Tom Hiddleston). Look for it when it hits theaters on May 4th and head over to our Blend Film Database to see more from the title.
