Red, the Robert Schwentke film starring Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren and Morgan Freeman, wasn't a record-setter when it was released back in 2010, but it quietly did quite well at the box office. After receiving largely positive marks from critics who praised it as a fun action comedy, it went on to make over $90 million domestically and nearly $200 million internationally, all on a rather small $58 million reported budget. This success sponsored a sequel and while it's taken a little extra time to get here, 2013 is right around the corner.
And today we get our first look at the film.
Though Red 2 won't actually be out until August, Summit Entertainment has posted a first-look image at the sequel, which features Willis (who is back as leading man Frank Moses) along with John Malkovich and Mary Louise-Parker (both of whom will be reprising their respective roles from the first movie, Marvin Boggs and Sarah Ross). From the look of the image, things are going to be just as crazy and weird as they were in the last movie. You can spot the image below and click to see it in its highest resolution.
Directed by Galaxy Quest's Dean Parisot, the sequel brings most of the gang back from the previous film and has made some great additions, including Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta-Jones, David Thewlis, Neal McDonough and Byung-hun Lee. The project is based on the comic by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner, with Erich and Jon Hoeber handing script duties.
