CONFIRMED: Has Lena Headey Been Cast As The Villain In Dredd?

UPDATE: The Playlist has confirmed the scoop.

Considering the scale of the project, it's peculiar how little we've actually heard about the Pete Travis-directed Dredd, a new adaptation of the Carlos Ezquerra, John Wagner and Pat Mills comic series. The movie is currently in production, with the exception of Karl Urban, who plays the titular hero, and Olivia Thirlby, who plays the young Judge Cassandra Anderson, there's very little available about the cast outside of some smaller names listed on the film's IMDb page. If the fansite Judge Dredd Movie News is to believed, there is one name that we've all been missing.

According to the site, Lena Headey, best known for her role as Queen Gorgo in 300 and Sarah Conner in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, is also in the film. If the story is true, the actress will be playing Madeline Madrigal, a.k.a Ma-Ma, a gang leader who will serve as the film's main villain. If you're looking for an explanation as to why we haven't heard about this until now, she only came to the set last week.

Obviously this story is very much a rumor and until she's spotted in some set pictures or it is officially announced you can probably feel free not to believe it. That said, Headey is a solid actress who has proved that she can be badass. It may end up not being true, but here's hoping that it is.
