Cameron Diaz Flirts With Penelope Cruz In Latest Clip For The Counselor

Naked and wet Cameron Diaz sitting poolside and discussing sexual confessions with an equally naked and wet Penelope Cruz? I’ll admit, The Counselor, you know how to get my attention.

The actresses are featured in an exclusive clip for Sir Ridley Scott’s next thriller, a tease that was shared via Digital Spy. Out of context, it is a very strange conversation, with Diaz asking Cruz what kind of dirty details she shares with a priest during confession. Then she begins stroking her arm and flirting. “Just rattling your cage,” Diaz purrs. Mission accomplished.

You wouldn’t guess, watching this clip, what The Counselor actually is about. Based on an original script by author Cormac McCarthy (No Country for Old Men, The Road), Scott’s film has a very simple logline: A lawyer (Michael Fassbender) finds himself in over his head when he gets involved in drug trafficking. But because of the talents involved – especially McCarthy and Scott – we know to expect far more than a standard crime thriller with a conventional process.

For starters, have you seen Javier Bardem’s hair in this film?

Javier Bardem

Besides Bardem, Diaz and Cruz, The Counselor also boasts support from the likes Brad Pitt, John Leguizamo, Rosie Perez and Breaking Bad co-star Dean Norris. It is the first original screenplay that McCarthy has penned, and the fact that Scott’s giving it a ride – perhaps returning to territories he mined in Matchstick Men, Body of Lies or Black Rain -- has us extremely excited by the collaboration.

What’s equally great is that 20th Century Fox has been able to release multiple clips introducing the shady characters in The Counselor without spelling out the entire plot. I feel like I have a slight grip on the plot of Scott’s film, but in no way have I been spoiled by the marketing materials. Kudos to the ad department at Fox for figuring out how to get me excited for this movie without handing the entire film over on a silver platter.

The Counselor is coming to theaters on Oct. 25. If you want to take a peek at the latest trailer, give this one a spin. It isn’t too revealing, but at the same time, it’s a movie that promises Fassbender, Cruz, Pitt, Diaz and Bardem in multiple scenes. What footage could you possibly have to watch to be convinced further to go?
