With the exception of recent additions Cody Horn and Riley Keough, the casting of Steven Soderbergh's Magic Mike has developed a pretty obvious pattern. Thus far in pre-production the movie has added Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer, and Joe Manganiello. If you haven't figured it out yet, all of the actors are guys that women wouldn't mind seeing without their shirt on. But before you start trying to build a discrimination suit, the casting makes sense. After all, this is a movie about male strippers. Today, however, the production has enlisted an actor with a...different body type.

THR has learned that comedian Gabriel Iglesias has joined the ranks of Magic Mike. In the film the actor will play the club DJ who is considered part of the gang by all of the dancers. Based on Tatum's own experiences as a stripper, the story centers on the titular Magic Mike (Tatum), who takes a newcomer under his wing and shows him how to live both on the stage and off. Iglesias' acting experience has largely been limited to the small screen, but has played in small movies such as Days of Santiago, The Sufer King and El Matador.

I've wondered aloud about the tone of Magic Mike before, and I'm curious if this officially means that Soderbergh is heading in a more comedic direction with the content. It's not as though Soderbergh hasn't cast funny people in unfunny roles before (see: 90% of The Informant cast), but having a guy like Iglesias working with guys like Tatum, Pettyfer and McConaughey reads comedy to me.
