Disney Steals A Line From The Beach Boys

I always kind of liked that the Beach Boys song "Wouldn't It Be Nice" was a fairly uncritical view of teenage love, letting the kids fantasize about how awesome things would be if they were old enough to run away together and play house for the rest of their lives. But apparently Disney, uncharacteristically, wants to shatter all childhood notions of romance, and is developing the comedy Wouldn't It Be Nice to accomplish just that.

OK, I guess the movie sounds gentle enough-- two teens are zapped 20 years into the future, where they find out their plans to run away together and pursue their dreams don't work out exactly as they planned. Barry Blaustein and Jason Hefter wrote the script; THR isn't saying whether they intend it as a statement on teen abstinence ("Wait 'til you're older, kids!") or on ditching your high school boyfriend as soon as possible.

I kid, I kid-- I seriously doubt there's any political agenda here at all. But I hope this movie turns out fun and not secretly depressing, like Click. And that maybe it talks a teenager or two into ditching that high school boyfriend or girlfriend, because, hey, the Beach Boys couldn't be right about everything.
