First Look At Emily Browning And Michael Cera In Chile-Set Thriller

Chilean filmmaker Sebastián Silva first drew international notice in 2009 with his dark comedy The Maid, which scored a Golden Globe nomination for Best Foreign Language Film and won the Grand Jury Prize and Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. Now he's in post-production on his latest feature, an English-language horror-thriller he's written and helmed that stars Emily Browning, Michael Cera, Juno Temple, and Catalina Sandino Moreno.

Previously called Magic, Magic, the indie effort is presently untitled according to Shock Till You Drop, but this hasn't stopped its producers from unveiling a first look at the American Film Market. Check them out below:

The tentatively titled thriller centers on American tourist Alicia (Temple), who is visiting the Chilean Lake District with her best friend Sarah (Browning), when she begins to suffer from horrible visions. When Sarah abruptly leaves for Santiago, Alicia is left in the hands of strangers, (and presumably fellow tourists?) Brink and Barbara (Cera and Sandino Moreno). Alicia's visions grow wilder and more brutal, and her mind unravels in this chilling Chile-set thriller.

The images above are likely meant to entice possible distributors, which may be why they focus on the more recognizable Browning, and Cera, who seems to be trying to break out of his established gawky comedy niche with this role. Still, it's strange that Sandino Moreno, who earned an Oscar nomination for her performance in Maria Full of Grace, and Temple, who is supposed to be the film's protagonist, don't make an appearance. And who's the dude in the beanie?

Besides some seriously stern eyebrow-acting, there's little to indicate horror in these shots. But we'll see if these will be enough to score the movie formerly known as Magic, Magic domestic distribution when AFM kicks off next month.
