Fans of the Starz series Spartacus aren’t likely to have a hard time picturing Jai Courtney in an action role. The actor played the role of Varro in the premium cable drama, a gladiator who may have been the closest thing Spartacus had to a friend while enslaved in the house of Batiatus. Whether Courtney proves fitting for the role of John McClane’s son remains to be seen. In the meantime, his casting in the fifth Die hard movie is good news for those of us who appreciated his work in Spartacus: Blood and Sand.

Yesterday, we learned that the search for the actor to play John McClane’s son Jack for Die Hard 5 was narrowed down to Courtney. Today, courtesy of Collider, we have an image of Courtney side-by-side with John McClane himself (Bruce Willis).

While production on A Good Day to Die Hard doesn’t begin until April, this screen-test photo gives us an idea of how Courtney will look in character. Willis looks like he might be in the midst of a sarcastic retort, which isn’t an unfamiliar sight. Meanwhile, Courtney’s appearance is a vast change from the armor and loincloth get-up we’re used to seeing him wear. Also gone are the curly blonde locks, and in his hand, instead of a sword, he holds a gun.

Appearance-wise, it seems to work. We’ll have to wait and see how their on-screen dynamic works. Jack McClane is described as John’s estranged son, so there’s a good chance the two could butt heads, at least at first. Jack is also described as possibly being “more of a hardass than his father," which should be interesting to see. The two will be teamed up and set to work with one another in Moscow in the fifth film’s story.

What do you think? Seeing them next to one another, can you picture them as father and son?

A Good Day to Die Hard begins production in April and is set to hit theaters February 14, 2013.
