When I had the chance to visit the set of The Five-Year Engagement and interview director Nicholas Stoller and producer Rodney Rothman, one movie that they referenced as partial inspiration for their new film was When Harry Met Sally. And the comparison makes sense. Both movies deal with relationships spanning over a long period of time and feature two incredibly likable leads who audiences desperately want to see be happy by the time the end credits roll. And did I mention that both movies involve scenes of fake orgasm? Because they do and it's not what you're expecting.
A brand spanking new red band trailer for The Five-Year Engagement has arrived online and one of the multiple funny scenes involves Jason Segel faking an orgasm with his fiancee (played by Emily Blunt). The only difference here is that while Meg Ryan's fake orgasm from When Harry Met Sally sounded real, Segel has a much harder time selling it. Check it out below, courtesy of Funny or Die.
The Five-Year Engagement centers on Tom and Violent (Segel and Blunt), a couple living in San Fransisco that's so madly in love that they decide to get married. But when Violet is offered a postdoc position at the University of Michigan, the pair is forced to delay their nuptials. As the years pass, Violet's career flourishes, but Tom grows more and more despondent and resentful about being stuck in Ann Arbor, testing the limits of their relationship. The film co-stars Rhys Ifans, Alison Brie, Chris Pratt, Jacki Weaver, Jim Piddock, David Paymer, Mimi Kennedy, Chris Parnell, Mindy Kaling, Kevin Hart and Brian Posehn.
