Johnny Depp Confirmed For 21 Jump Street Cameo?

We've been hearing about a possible Johnny Depp cameo in the Phil Lord and Chris Miller-directed 21 Jump Street for months now. With either Depp or Jonah Hill - who will both be starring in the film and wrote the script - out promoting movies every few months, they've each been asked about the possibility hundreds of times, but nothing has ever been confirmed. Now it looks like they may be all set.
Coming Soonhas learned from an unidentified source that Johnny Depp will be making an appearance in the film adaptation of the 80s television series. The article doesn't mention if Depp - who played Officer Tom Hansen from 1987-1990 - will be returning in character. Last we heard about the cameo, Depp had shown interest but had yet to receive a call. The film already stars Channing Tatum, Ice Cube, Brie Larson, Rob Riggle, Dave Franco, DeRay Davis and Jake Johnson and has already started production. The film is scheduled to be released on March 16, 2012.
When first asked about a cameo back in March of last year, Depp suggested a cutaway scene that involved him "somewhere hoarding jars of peanut butter and shaking in my underpants." It's a shame, but that idea is so funny that if they don't do that exactly I am destined to be disappointed.
Mini-Update: To celebrate the start of filming, Jonah Hill recently sent out a photo from the set via his yfrog account. Check it out below.
