Last summer Michael Caine was the first to start the rumor that Philip Seymour Hoffman and Johnny Depp would be part of a third Batman film, a rumor that was then soundly debunked but pretty much everyone with a say in the matter.

And now, a year after everyone else told us it wasn't true, Caine has the official word that, duh, Johnny Depp will not be in the currently nonexistent Batman movie. He told MTV at the Toronto Film Festival, "Johnny Depp is great in anything, but there is no Johnny Depp in this Batman. They tell me in no uncertain terms."

Of course, the confirmation that Depp won't be in the movie is a kind of confirmation in and of itself-- until now we'd all just pretty much assumed it without proof. So Michael Caine, hard as he may try, just can't stop breaking Batman news.
