The vampire project The Last Voyage of Demeter first got attention last year as one of the many, many projects Noomi Rapace was being offered following her performances in the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series. Since then Rapace has officially joined the Alien prequel Prometheus, and we haven't heard anything about Demeter, suggesting maybe the project was stalling out for a while as they waited for Rapace to clear up her schedule.
But now things seem to be moving forward again, with THR reporting that Eclipse and 30 Days of Night director David Slade may take on the project as his third vampire-centric film. Not only that, but Bleeding Cool is hearing that Jude Law could play the lead role. Ben Kingsley and Rapace are still reported to be attached in supporting roles, but it's unclear if Rapace can make it work with her Prometheus schedule. Weirdly enough, they're describing the plot as pretty similar to the original Alien-- based around the ship that transported Dracula to England in Bram Stoker's original novel, the script explores what happened on board before the ship washed up in tatters, with only one insane survivor left.
Financing still isn't set up, but Slade's name can't hurt things-- not only does he have all of that Eclipse box office backing him up, but 30 Days of Night shared a similar premise to Last Voyage and could serve as a good example of what he can bring to the genre. With Law also on board they could have this thing moving pretty quickly, though that would probably mean Rapace would be counted out. If you're still hungry for some non-sparkly vampires at the movies, though, this is probably your best hope.
