There's been a distinct absence of Kristen Stewart on the big screen this year, so far, especially when we consider that she played starring roles in three films in 2012 (Snow White and the Huntsman, On the Road and the last Twilight movie). But she has some things lined up, including The Big Shoe, not to mention the (eventual) Snow White and the Huntsman sequel. She was in and then out for Focus. And now it looks like she's in for two more movies, both of which go into production this summer.
Deadline reports that Stewart is set to star in Camp X-Ray and Oliver Assayas' Sils Maria. For Camp X-Ray, Stewart will star as a young soldier who's sent to Guantanamo, where she's treated hatefully by the Muslim men in her charge. She forms an "odd friendship" with a young man who has spent the better part of a decade imprisoned there.
As for Sils Maria, the English language film is titled after the Swiss setting and was written by Assaya for Juliette Binoche, who will star as an actress obsessed with a a younger actress (Chloe Moretz), who is set to play the role that made her (Binoche's character) famous when she was younger. The movie's said to explore "middle age and the introspective period where one questions how they've spent their life so far." Stewart's set to play Binoche's assistant in this one, which is set to be filmed this summer in Europe.
Both projects sound different, tonally, but both could offer the actress some new dramatic challenges as she pushes forward into her post-Twilight career.
