MTV To Inflict Suffering

In their ongoing quest to find new ideas for projects, film makers continue to avoid finding original material opting instead to repeatedly cannibalize other media for ideas. According to Cinescape, MTV is the next on the band wagon having optioned Midway's video game "The Suffering", a story about a man who is convicted of murdering his family, an event he can't recall. Monsters attack the prison where he's sent. Chaos ensues.

My mind is already reeling with potential review headlines. "Audiences Endure Suffering. "Suffering Unleashed On Unsuspeting Theater Goers". I hate to be so up front pessimistic (well, no I don't, I actually like it but it makes me sound so negative), but as a general rule video game conversions haven't made for the best movies.

Most video game flicks are mediocre drivel, capitolizing on VG fan boy fetishes for feminine heroes in short shorts and tight shirts to turn a profit. Recent revelations about the progression of the upcoming Doom movie aren't promising either. The odds are against it, and there are no writers or directors attached to The Suffering yet, so it's too early to tell anything. Stan Winston is assigned as one of the producers so at least we know the makeup will look good.
