Admit it: you're ready for Guardians Of The Galaxy already. You're humming Hooked On A Feeling at random intervals, you're naming all of your house plants Groot, and you're even looking into raccoon adoptions. With James Gunn's Marvel Studios opus being released in a little over a month's time, it's hard not to get excited. However, are you excited enough that you'd want to see a little something extra – say, nearly 20 minutes of actual footage – a little bit early? If you just knocked over your monitor by jumping up in excitement, we've got something you're going to want to take a look at.
If you head to the official Guardians Of The GalaxyFacebook page, you'll find details on Marvel and Disney's Guardians Of The Galaxy First Look Event. Running in 150 IMAX theaters across the United States and Canada, fans will get the chance to see a preview crafted especially for this special screening, which contains 17 minutes of finished footage from the film. Not only is it free, but you'll also receive this snazzy limited edition poster – available exclusively at the event:
This isn't the first time a studio has held a "first look" event such as this one. In fact, 20th Century Fox's big Avatar Day promotion back in 2009 is the first thing that came to mind when I read about this opportunity. Much like that promotional event, you're going to want to jump onto the Guardians Of The Galaxy Facebook page as quickly as you can to track down a local venue that's showing the footage.
Not to delve too much into the negative aspects of this event (which could fill another article entirely), but the only bummer with this event is that the Guardians Of The Galaxy first look is only being shown in 150 IMAX theaters. If you're an international fan eager for your first peek at the crew in action, then it looks like you're unfortunately out of luck. Still, the positive side is that it's a free ticket to see advanced footage, and the studio was cool enough to make a special edition poster for fans devoted enough to make the trek out to their local screening location.
The Guardians Of The Galaxy first look hopes to be a welcome treat to fans who are eager enough to see the film that they'd set aside some time on a Monday night to travel out to their local theater to enjoy a couple select scenes that might include any of your favorite moments from the trailer. In fact, I can't imagine that they' won't show at least some of the gigantic prison riot that features Rocket Raccoon blasting fools away with his disproportionately large machine gun. Peter Quill proudly pronouncing "I'm Star Lord," only to be met with strange looks by his would be captors, is almost a sure bet to be included in full as well.
If you manage to score tickets, the Guardians Of The Galaxy first look is on Monday, July 7th at 7 PM. If you don't manage to secure tickets, then don't worry... the film opens shortly after on August 1st.
