Mean Girls Meets The Hobbit In Mean Elves Cartoon

Today is the day! The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is finally in theaters! Continuing the adventure of the titular Bilbo Baggins, this sequel to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey sees Bilbo and his band of dwarf brethren heading into the Lonely Mountain to attempt to conquer the mighty and malevolent dragon Smaug. The second installment of this franchise also brings with it elves like Thranduil, Legolas and newcomer to the franchise (and existence) Tauriel. Of course some clever animator has already re-imagined the story of Bilbo and his confrontation with these gorgeous creatures as a remake of Mean Girls.

Created by animator/illustrator/cartoonist Leigh Lahav, this mashup vid tipped by Jezebel features references to many of our favorite Mean Girls moments, while pointing out the Queen Bee personality traits of the Wood Elf race, who really does act like they are the greatest thing to ever have existed. And just look at the other parallels! Bilbo (Martin Freeman) and Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) both have red hair and could do with some stepped up grooming. (Hairy feet are so 2012!) Gandalf (Ian McKellen) as the snarky Janis Ian (Lizzy Caplan) is brilliant, because no one nails bitchy one-liners like McKellen, whatever the movie.

Then of course there's the Mean Elves. Tauriel (Evangeline Lilly) as dopey ESPN-haver Karen Smith (Amanda Seyfried). ("Oh my god, Tauriel, you can't just go around asking people why they're not dwarves!") Legolas (Orlando Bloom) as uber wealthy busybody Gretchen Wieners (Lacey Chabert). ("That's why his ears are so big, they are full of secrets!") And of course Thranduil (Lee Pace) as the Regina George (Rachel McAdams), the evil personified with incredible hair and no patience for losers. ("Stop trying to make precious happen!")

Compare the two's trailers, and marvel with me this hasn’t happened sooner:
