Muppets Most Wanted Teases Its Twitter-ific Super Bowl Trailer

How else are you expected to advertise Muppets Most Wanted? Recruit some of your fluff-stuffed “stars,” relegate the real stars like Tina Fey and Ricky Gervais to the background, and wait for families to snap up tickets to what’s expected to be a massive movie hit.

This clip leans on a gimmick used already by Muppets, but that doesn’t make it any less clever. It leans on fake Twitter accounts created to submit “reviews” for the sequel. That means you can put as many exclamation marks as you want!

The best part about these ads is that they don’t give away any real footage tied to the movie. They let audiences know that the Muppets will be in a new sequel. They make a few funny jokes tied to social media. And they let all of that momentum carry the day.

Muppets Most Wanted co-stars Fey, Gervais and Ty Burrell. It arrives in theaters on March 21. And look for the Muppets to double dip, as they are part of a car commercial also running during the Big Game… at some point.
