P.T. Anderson Harboring Metal Gear - Updated

With the Playstation 3 release of Metal Gear Solid 4, the hype machine for the video game is reaching its boiling point and spilling over into other realms of entertainment. That's right, rumors of a Metal Gear movie are already swirling. The latest, and least likely, comes from Kotaku, reporting that Paul "There Will Be Blood" Thomas Anderson is interested. The writer grabbed Konami's (the studio behind the Metal Gear game) Aki Saito, who is handling motion picture negotiations.
"Hollywood has great respect for Mr. Kojima. They want to meet with him. Kojima will be acting as a producer, but we don't know how involved he'll be as a producer," Saito said. "Often Hollywood adaptations have the original game creator involved at the beginning, but somewhere along the line they fall out of view. This is why it's very important for us to carefully pick the studio for this project."
… "Paul Thomas Anderson is interested," Saito mentioned, according toKotaku.
The award-winning P.T. Anderson interested in a video game adaptation? Doesn't sound likely. That sounds like something more up Paul W.S. Anderson (Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil) alley. We could see how Saito got the names mixed up, especially with the nerves of holding a press conference racing.
Update! The guys over at Collider say they have a direct line to the producer of Metal Gear Solid, who they say told them the rumor is utterly false. Let's be honest, it never made much sense to begin with.
